Myrtle was baptized in the United Methodist Church by Rev. John Thompson Steffy on 5 Jun 1887 (Fisk Chapel). She died of tuberculosis. The newspaper account reads as follows:

The disease which took hold of her was some time in doing its fatal work. For eighteen months she was confined to the house and almost the same length of time to her bed. During her sickness even to the very last, she exercised the greatest patience. Until a short time before her death, she thought or hoped that she might get around again. But when she found that her getting well again was impossible, she bravely surrendered. She, being just a little more than 21 years of age, it was natural that she would say, 'I would like to live longer', but she also added, 'if it's the Lord's will for me to die, I am willing to go.' Myrtle was an upright Christian young lady, being held in high esteem by the community in which she lived. She was a member of the Fisk Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church having joined when she was 12 years of age. She will be missed, not only by her father, mother, brother and sister who mourn their loss, but also a large circle of friends."
