Irene grew up and was educated in Ohio. She had blond hair and her Mom (who had dark hair) called her "Dutchie". Irene attended Otterbein Bible College, worked at a church in Wisconsin, and also attended Chicago Training School in Evanston, IL which became Garrett Bible Seminary. She went on to Northwestern for her master's degree in Religious Education in 1940. She worked for a time at a church in Wisconsin. From 1947 until she retired in Sep 1979, she served as a missionary in Brazil under the Methodist Board of Missions. She lived in the Otterbein apartments for some years but has now moved to the nursing care facility there in Otterbein, Ohio. According to the family, she resembles her father in termperment and looks.
