Linnie was three years old when her father died. She and her mother moved to the Hesselgesser home, the home of her mother where they lived till her mother married again to W.H.L. Newingham and they moved to Freeport. Linnie attended and graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, then taught in Aspinwall. When Mr. Newingham was in jail for wrongful use of copyright or license, Linnie took a trip to Bermuda to escape embarassment.

Linnie married and had two sons, both of whom moved to California. After her husband Frank's death in 1975, Linnie moved to California to be near her sons.
