After Crosswind disbanded, Larry Berkley, Elwood Fisher and I moved to the D/FW area from Longview, TX as new employees of General Dynamics. Larry and I got involved in music in the church we were attending, but we longed for something more creative. Larry put together a studio and we recorded a few original songs, even played our original songs at our church a few times together . Dave Marsh lived in Dallas County at the time, so all three of us got together to play music and record a few songs. I've got a few here now and will be adding more of them as I have time to digitize them.

Berkley Muzak

One of the tunes we recorded was something Larry Berkley had written. We never gave it a title, so I took the liberty of labeling it Berkley Muzak. It's a nice short little tune that Larry put down the drum track, used his MIDI wind instrument with a saxophone patch on a synth, and I played several keyboard tracks. I may have played the acoustic guitar, but then again it might have been Larry. Larry would know.

Larry Berkley wrote and composed this song. Dave and Larry shared vocals on the song. Larry played bass, drums, some keyboards and the wind MIDI sax. I played keyboards and background vocals. If memory serves me right, this was one of the first songs we started working on in the D/FW area in Larry's home studio. Great song to collaborate with Dave and Larry and forge a bit of a different vibe in what we did together.

Larry Berkley wrote this song. Dave Marsh did most of the guitar tracks and the lead vocal, Larry did alternate lead vocals, the drums and the bass, and I believe he did the harmonica. I did backing guitar tracks and all three of us did background vocals. At the time we were thinking about doing some live music to get back to what Crosswind had been doing - encouraging listeners in their faith in God in the wrapper of fun to listen music. This song was part of that effort to put together a repertoire for that possibility.

Dave Marsh wrote this song for his wife at the time, Anna. I always loved this song for it's playfulness and rhythms. Dave did the vocals and guitars, Larry did the bass and drum tracks and I did the keyboards on this arrangement.

Perfect Day

Larry wrote this tune. We both added multiple tracks of percussion and keyboards. Larry did the bass and drum tracks and the wind instrument with a saxophone patch on the synth. I don't believe Larry ever gave the tune a name, so I took the liberty of calling it "Perfect Day", as the name seems to fit, at least to me.

Time Will Tell

Dave Marsh wrote this song, did vocals and guitar on the tracks. Larry Berkley did bass and drums, I did keyboards and some double lead guitar work with Dave. The song is a haunting reminder of how tenuous relationships can be, even among the closest of friends. Dave's lyrical and musical creativity is evident in this later song that he wrote after Crosswind had long disbanded. For me, this song is an inspiration to run the race that is before me in this life in every relationship where a two way street exists.
Don't Break Up The Family

Dave Marsh wrote this song. I believe we did this song in LB Studios, but I cannot remember where the children's voices came from! The song is heartfelt and speaks to the confusion, pain and remorse that usually happens when relationships within the family take a dark turn. Dave did the vocals and guitar, Larry played bass and drums and some background vocals, I did keyboards and background vocals. Listening to this song years later my heart goes out for the different friends I have known through my life that have become estranged from their families. Some have entered into new relationships, some are still struggling with the consequences of their circumstances. My heart goes out to them through this song, and my prayers are that God would work through these situations to bring each of those friends to the place where God becomes real to them, and they can experience how God works through our submission to Him to bring about beauty and restoration. There is a great article by the Colson Center that talks to this issue that includes links to over 50 years and over 1 million families that have been researched in regards to divorce.
I Want To Be Holy

This is a revised, updated version of Dave's song that was one of our popular songs back in Crosswind days. We wanted to take the song in a different direction which to me was a nice variation on the original recording. One of my friends, Dan Hudson and I talked about this song years later. Dan asked me what I needed to do to be loved by God, something that the words of this song imply. I knew the answer was that there was nothing I needed to do, that God's love was there for me since He knew me from before my birth. But there is a tension in the Christian life between grace and works that this song reflects. Dave did the vocals and acoustic guitar, Larry did drums and bass, I did the keyboards on this song.
